About Brian Gilchrist

With more than 30 years of medical experience and training, Dr. Brian Gilchrist is an accomplished surgeon, professor, and academic. He has lectured around the world and published extensively on neonatal and pediatric surgical topics in journals such as the Journal of Surgery and the American Journal of Surgery. He is also a reviewer for the Journal of Pediatric Surgery. He also edited The Basic Science of Necrotizing Entercolitis and contributed chapters to many books. Dr. Brian Gilchrist also serves as managing editor of eMedicine Surgical Textbook.

Dr. Brian Gilchrist has received many academic appointments, including associate professor of surgery at New York University and the Mount Sinai Icahn Medical School. He also taught at Tufts Medical School, Brown University, and Harvard Medical School.

Dr. Gilchrist earned his MD from Tufts University School of Medicine. He completed additional training at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, Oregon Health Sciences University, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, and Brown University School of Medicine. He’s taken continuing education courses in topics such as advance pediatric laparoscopics and pectus excavatum repair. Most recently, he treated patients as chief of pediatric surgery at NYU Winthrop University.
